Our Story

JarrahWood Estate, located at 183 Wade Road, Brookhampton (previously known as Byramgou Park), was acquired by the King Family during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 as a rural retreat for Paul King and his extended family, affectionately known as the Brodie Bunch or The Three Amigos.

Paul’s then partner envisioned planting trees and being a nature lover, while Paul aspired to cultivate and operate his own vineyard. Despite initial scepticism from friends knowledgeable about wine, this project is driven by passion, a love for country life, and the unique experiences that the southern region offers. Paul aims to transform this small vineyard and its surrounding bushland, rich with Jarrah and Marri trees, and other native Australian flora and fauna, into a cherished family estate where future generations can relish the natural splendour and tranquillity.

At JarrahWood Estate, we craft exceptional wines that reflect the rich history and unique terroir of Brookhampton. The vineyard's heritage dates back to the 1850s, and our commitment to quality is evident in every hand-picked grape. We advocate of the grow-it-yourself philosophy, a fundamental principle that resonates deeply with the ethos of JarrahWood Estate. Each bottle of wine embodies the essence of the estate, capturing the unique flavours and aromas of the region, and offering a taste of the passion and effort invested in this remarkable venture.

CRAFTING FINE WINES

Paul has worked in tourism and hospitality for most of his career, always striving for industry improvement, innovation, and collaboration. His interest in projects has spanned across Western Australia, the South Pacific, and Asia. As a founder and Managing Director of Seashells Hospitality Group, Paul along with his team have brought Seashells properties to life along Western Australia's coastline for more than 35 years.  He has been an active committee member in more than 12 tourism and business organisations from Western Australia’s north to south. During his five-year tenure as Chairman of Tourism Council of Western Australia, Paul was an industry changemaker. He was instrumental in giving a voice to Aboriginal tourism in the organisation and successfully lobbied for significant State and Federal funding increases for the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC).

Paul was awarded the Sir David Brand medal for Tourism at the 2015 Western Australia Tourism Awards for his contribution to the Western Australian tourism industry. The extent to which Paul has positively impacted the tourism and hospitality industry has been credited to his trademark optimism, drive, and enthusiasm.  Over the years Paul and Seashells have developed a large data base and JarrahWood Estate aims to share their love of wine with this network. The 2023 Grenache has already won awards, and we are very excited to introduce a new label for 2024 and 2025 vintage: Vin Des Rois which means The Wine of Kings in French. The 2024 blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre promises to be a great drinking wine. And French style dry Rosé is being bottled and released in May 2025.

Paul and his family envisage adding glamping accommodation to JarrahWood Estate in the future, blending luxury with rustic charm. This addition will enhance the estates appeal as a unique and tranquil getaway. The vision for glamping accommodation aligns with Paul’s commitment to hospitality and tourism excellence, providing unforgettable experiences and fostering a deeper connection with nature. This innovative approach would offer a sustainable model for future growth, ensuring JarrahWood Estate remains a beloved retreat for years to come. Paul is now eager to share his award-winning wines with the world, a testament to his dedication and the quality of the vineyard he has cultivated. Each bottle of wine embodies the essence of the estate, capturing the unique flavours and aromas of the region, and offering a taste of the passion and effort invested in this remarkable venture.

SUSTAINABLE PHILOSOPHY

Paul’s deep commitment to sustainability is not just a personal value — it’s a guiding principle that shapes every aspect of operations at JarrahWood Estate. This ethos is reflected in our conscious efforts to care for and regenerate the land, especially with respect to its Indigenous significance.

In our vineyard, this dedication to sustainable and innovative farming practices comes to life in a number of ways. One of the most unique and effective methods we employ is the integration of sheep into our viticultural practices. These animals play a vital dual role: not only do they naturally manage under-vine weed growth, eliminating the need for chemical herbicides, but they also contribute to canopy management by grazing on lower vine leaves. This increases airflow around the grape clusters, reducing disease pressure and enhancing fruit quality—all without the use of tractors, machinery, or synthetic sprays. It’s a holistic approach that supports both the health of the vineyard and the broader ecosystem.
